ARGENTINA
El nombre Argentina proviene del Latin: Argentum, que significa Plata. Su origen se remonta a las Expediciones realizadas por los Espanioles al Rio de la Plata, quienes en dicha region descubrieron nativos ofreciendoles objetos de Plata.
UBICACION: Argentina esta ubicada en America del Sur, en Hemisferio Sur. El pais tiene casi 4 millones de m2: el 54% es superficie plana (campo). Limita con Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia y Chile.
CLIMA: varia del Subtropical en el Norte, a Sub-Antartico en la Patagonia. De Noviembre a Marzo la temperatura media es de 23C y, de Junio a Septiembre es de 12C. VERANO: Dic 21 - Mar 20, OTONIO: Mar 21 - Jun 20, INVIERNO: Jun 21 - Sept 20, PRIMAVERA: Sep 21 - Dec 20.
IDIOMA: el oficial es el Castellano, aunque seguramente oira hablar el Lunfardo.
MONEDA: La oficial es el PESO ($), hay billetes de 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, y 100. Monedas de: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 centavos y 1 peso. Tambien encontrara otros billetes oficiales como el: PATACON & LECOP. Recomendamos NO aceptar dichos billetes, ya que al cambiar por USD le realizaran un descuento por tipo de cambio. Solo acepte: PESOS ($) o USD.
ARGENTINE
The name Argentina comes from the Latin: Argentum, which means Silver. The origin of the name goes back to the voyages made by the Spanish to the Rio de la Plata, they discovered natives in the region who presented them with silver objects.
LOCATION: Argentina is located in South America, in the Southern Hemisphere. The country has almost 4 million square kilometres: 54% are grasslands and savannas. Its frontier with Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile.
CLIMATE: It ranges from the Subtropical in the North, to sub-Antarctic in southern Patagonia. From November to March, the media temperature is 23C and, from June to September is 12C.
SUMMER: Dec 21st - March 20th, AUTUMM: Mar 21st - Jun 20th, WINTER: Jun 21st - Sept 20th, SPRING: Sep 21st - Dec 20th.
LANGUAGE: The official is Spanish, although you may hear the lunfardo (portenios slang).
MONEY: The official currency is the PESO ($). There are notes of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100. Coins of: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 cents and 1 peso coin. You may also find several official notes such us: PATACON & LECOP. We should recommend NOT to accept this kind of notes, the only reason is that you will suffer an extra discount (at Banks and Exchange Agencies) when getting USD. JUST ACCEPT: $ (Pesos) or USD (American Dollars).

COMO RECORRER BUENOS AIRES
Buenos Aires es una muy extensa e implacable ciudad, a la que podras visitar en transporte publico como: colectivo, tren, y subte, o en tranporte privado como: taxi o remis.
La Ciudad tiene importantes conexiones al resto del pais a traves de los micros y trenes de larga distancia, o via aerea. En el caso que arribaras sin aviso al unico Aeropuerto Internacional de Buenos Aires (Ezeiza), podras contratar algun remis, micro o auto alquilado, con el que podras llegar al Centro de la Ciudad en 40 minutos aproximadamente.
Los vuelos de cabotaje o los vuelos a Uruguay parten desde el Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, que se encuentra situado al Este sobre el Rio de la Plata, a solo 15 minutos del Centro.
GETTING AROUND BUENOS AIRES
Buenos Aires is a huge and hectic City, in which you can get around by bus, train, underground, taxi, or mini-cabs. You can travel to the rest of the country by long distance buses, train or aeroplane. International flights arrive/depart from Ministro Pistarini (at Ezeiza), which is located approx 40 min away from Downtown. If you just arrive to the airport Ministro Pistrani, Ezeiza, you will find cabs, shuttles, or rental cars, which will take you to the City.
Domestic flights (or flights to Uruguay) leave from the Jorge Newbery Airport, which is located 15 minutes away from downtown, besides the Rio de la Plata.
OTROS DATOS UTILES
Impuestos Aereos: Al dejar el pais via aerea, en el Aeropuerto tendras que abonar una tasa de USD 18 para los vuelos internacionales, y USD 7.05 para los de cabotaje (o domesticos). Los impuestos para Uruguay van desde USD 16.50 a USD 20.50.
Nota: Informate sobre los costos de las tasas antes de arribar al Aeropuerto, ya que estos impuestos pueden variar.
PROPINAS: Generalmente se le deja al mozo de un restaurant, bar o pub un 10% de propina sobre el total de la consumicion.
TELEFONIA: En la via publica encontraras telefonos publicos que trabajan con monedas o con tarjetas que se pueden comprar en los kioskos. Tambien encontraras cabinas telefonicas llamadas LOCUTORIOS, en el cual se paga en efectivo por la llamada.
Para llamar desde el exterior hacia Argentina tendras que marcar: Codigo Internacional (00) + Codigo Pais (54) + Codigo Ciudad: for Buenos Aires is (11)
MAPAS RUTEROS: Los podras comprar en cualquier kiosko de diarios.
VISAS: la mayoria de los turistas no necesitan visa, y en teoria, son gratuitas y renovables por otros 90 dias desde el arribo al pais.
ELECTRICIDAD: 220V - 50Hz
PESO Y MEDIDA: sistema metrico, pero en las zonas rurales se utiliza la legua (aprox 5 km).
OTHER TIPS: FLIGHT TAXES: When leaving the country by airplane, you will be asked to pay a tax of USD 18 for international flights, and for domestic flights the tax is USD 7.05. The tax for Uruguay goes from USD 16.50 to USD 20.50. Note: be aware that these taxes may change.
TIPS: At restaurants or coffee shops, it is usual to leave 10%.
TELEPHONE: Public telephones work with cards or coins (you can get them at any kiosk), unlike they usually are out of service, or does not work properly, we recommend to make your phone calle comfortably from call boxes or LOCUTORIOS, in which you can pay in cash. To call from abroad to Argentina you have to dial: International Code (00) + Country Code (54) + City Code: for Buenos Aires is (11). At LOCUTORIOS you may also find: internet access, fax, photocophier & scanner.
ROUTE MAPS: Can be purchased at some newspaper shops.
VISAS: Most foreigners do not need visas and, in theory, are issued free, renewable 90 day tourist cards on arrival.
TIME: GMC/UTC minus 3 hours, Buenos Aires does not observe daylight-saving time lately.
ELECTRICITY: 220V, 50Hz
WEIGHT & MEASURES: Mostly metric, but rural areas may use legua (league, about 5 km)
